Weeks of 3/23/2020 and 3/30/2020
Go to the New York Times Interactive COVID19 Map. Each day you will focus on a different map.
- Day 1: Look at the map at the top of the page. Discuss with your parents:
- What the map is really showing you.
- How does the map maker use colors to help the viewer understand what is going on?
- Day 2: Look at the map of the US. Discuss with your parents:
- What is this map showing you that is different than the map from yesterday?
- How does the choice of a different symbol for this map help you understand what the mapmaker wants you to understand?
- Day 3: Look at the graph of the confirmed cases and the maps of Europe & Asia. Discuss with your parents:
- How does a graph show you different information than a map?
- Does a graph make the information easier or harder to understand?
- Days 4 & 5: Take another look at the maps from earlier in the week. Discuss with your parents
- How has the situation changed?
- How do maps and graphs help people make sense of complex situations?
